Weight Issue -Addressing Obesity

Image
In a world where convenience often trumps conscious choices, the prevalence of obesity has reached alarming levels. Obesity is a complex condition characterized by excessive body fat, posing serious health risks. To gauge one's weight status, the   Body Mass Index (BMI)   is commonly used, calculated by dividing an individual's weight in kilograms by the square of their height in meters. Another crucial metric in assessing obesity is the  Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) , which measures the distribution of fat in the body. When WHR and BMI exceed certain thresholds, the condition is classified as morbid obesity, indicating severe health implications. India, once known for its diverse culinary heritage, is now grappling with a rising obesity epidemic. Recent statistics reveal a significant increase in obesity rates, affecting millions. This surge in weight-related concerns is a harbinger of various health issues, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory disorders...

Endometriosis: A Closer Look at Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options Endometriosis  is a complex and often misunderstood medical condition affecting women of reproductive age. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus, known as endometrium, grows outside the uterus. This misplaced tissue can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other pelvic organs, leading to a range of symptoms and potential complications. Symptoms of endometriosis can vary, but common indicators include  Dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramps) ,  dyspareunia (pain during intercourse) , and diffuse lower abdominal pelvic pain that may intensify during menstruation. Women with endometriosis often experience chronic discomfort, impacting their overall quality of life. Dysmenorrhea , characterized by severe menstrual cramps, is a hallmark symptom of endometriosis. Ovary on Ultrasound

Image
Ovaries are the production house of female body where the eggs are produced. The Ultrasound appearance of the ovary is an ovoid shaped structure with homogenous echotexture and a central echogenic Medulla. We usually measure the size of the ovary in 3 dimensions and calculate volume on ultrasound by 0.523*length*width*depth. There are two ovaries- Right and Left. Typically the two ovaries alternately release Egg and usually one Egg is released per month. If the Egg is not fertilized, then the egg becomes atretic after 24 hours. The Corpus luteum also eventually die and level of progesterone hormone drops, the uterus lining sheds and the period begins after 14 days of ovulation. Role of Endometrium in Fertility Treatment

Image
Endometrial Thickness:- One of the most important parameters in infertility treatment is endometrial thickness. The thickness of the endometrial lining is important for embryo implantation. In the natural cycle as well as in the stimulated cycle, when the egg reaches around 18 mm the endometrium grows under the effect of oestrogen and usually reaches the magic measurement of around 10.3+- 0.3 mm or more and becomes triple layered. If endometrium remains thin in spite of good egg size then that needs an evaluation.     Causes of Thin Endometrium:- Some important causes of the thin endometrium include chronic pelvic infection, genital tuberculosis, previous history of dilatation and curettage or asherman's syndrome. It has been seen that when we use clomiphene citrate for ovulation induction, it is associated with a thinner endometrium. Compared with clomiphene citrate, letrozole has been associated with a thicker endometrium. Gonadotropins represents the most aggressive ovarian...
