Operative Hysteroscopy for Submucosal Fibroids: Why It's Required
Submucosal fibroids or submucosal myomas or submucosal leiomyomas are specific type of uterine fibroid that grows just beneath the lining of the uterine cavity. These fibroids can be problematic due to their location whereby they tend to project in to the uterine cavity and disrupt the endometrium lining and the cavity of the uterus. From the medical stand point these submucosal leiomyomas can be type 0 when it is exclusively intracavity or type 1 and 2 depending upon its intramural extension being less than 50% or more than 50%.
While they may not always cause symptoms, they can lead to a range of issues, including abnormal uterine bleeding and infertility. Operative hysteroscopy is a day care surgical procedure often recommended to treat submucosal fibroids, addressing both the bleeding problems and infertility concerns associated with these growths.
