Is Hysteroscopy Essential Before IVF
Is Hysteroscopy Essential Before IVF?
Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that allows a gynaecologist or hysteroscopy specialist to examine the inside of the uterus using a thin, flexible tube with a camera attached. While hysteroscopy is not always required before in vitro fertilization (IVF), it can be a valuable tool in certain cases.
Before embarking on the IVF journey, many fertility specialists recommend a hysteroscopy for several reasons. Firstly, it helps identify and address any structural abnormalities within the uterus, such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, or septum, which could interfere with embryo implantation. Removing these obstacles can improve the chances of a successful IVF cycle.
Hysteroscopy also allows the gynaecologist to assess the uterine lining's health and thickness, which is critical for embryo implantation. Any inflammation, scarring, or irregularities in the lining can be detected and treated during the procedure. In some patients all reports are normal and still they are unable to conceive and on hysteroscopy you may see tubercles , or you may see thin endometrium due to destruction of the endometrium caused by chronic inflammation because of tuberculosis.
